The step by step guide how to apply slabs or tiles with Ceresit CE 79 / CE 89 Epoxy mortar.
Working time 45 min
Walk after 24 h
Electric drill and a stirrer
CE 79 consists of two components supplied in one container. Add the hardener (component B-catalyst) to the resin (component A) and mix with a low speed electric drill and stirrer until the mixture is free of lumps. Make sure that all the paste is catalyzed. Do not add water or solvents to improve workability.
- Substrate preparation
CE 79 adheres to all clean and dry substrates – brick, stone, gypsum board and metal. Any substrate must be even and primed.
- Use all content
Scrape the sides and bottom of the container to make sure all the paste is catalyzed.
The ideal temperature for application is between +18 and +23 °C – the product is an easily workable smooth paste, with a pot life time, working and correction time of 60 min. It is ready for foot traffic after 24 h.
At temperatures between +8 and +12°C, the product is very dense, difficult to apply and the hardening time is lengthened.
- Application tip
Drag a trowel in one direction with the angle of 60°.
Avoid semi-circular moves as they make voids in the adhesive layer when slabs are pressed to the substrate.
Spread the adhesive in parallel way to tile edge.
- Check the tiles
Some kinds of tiles (polished porcelain) and natural stone have rough, microporous surfaces, making them susceptible to staining and very difficult to clean. In this case preliminary application checks should be performed.
Talcum is often found on the rear side of large format tiles and on resin-bonded slabs.
It is absolutely necessary to remove it.
How to adjust the trowel notches to the size of the tile and which application method to use for large formats?
The bigger tiles, the larger notches:
- Tiles up to 30 cm length – notch min. 8 mm
- Tiles up to 60 cm length – notch min. 10 mm
- Tiles above 60 cm length – notch 12 mm
- Large format tiles – notch at least 12 mm.
- At larger format and in outside areas please use the buttering floating or floating method. For wall application 65% covering is needed and for outside application min. 95% is needed
